The card has a small circular drawing of a building in a field. The building may be a church. This has a wide circular frame in duck egg blue with embossed branches covered in pink blossom. Above the image is: Blith season of Joy and Goodwill. Below the image is: With best wishes for Christmas and the New Year from. There is space to write a name but it has not been written on on the front. The is a small ribbon fixed to the front of the card. The whole card has a fine gold frame.

Headed Tuck’s Post Card, Carte Postale – Postkarte with a divided back. The right-hand side is labelled (For Address Only). The stamp block is outlined and contains the Tuck artist easel logo. To the left of the heading is the royal coat of arms  and the words ‘By Appointment’.  The left margin reads: Raphael Tuck & Sons “Christmas” Series 5613 Art Publishers to their Majesties the King & Queen. Chromographed in Bavaria.

Commentary

I think the Herbert who sent this card is Elsie’s cousin Herbert Daniel Cooksley.  There is another Herbert mentioned among Elsie’s cards but that Herbert is a friend of Elsie’s sister Ivy. This card is more likely from a family member. Cousin Herbert is one year younger than Elsie.

Raphael Tuck & Sons existed for almost 100 years from 1866 until 1960. They they were appointed official printers to Queen Victoria in 1893 and they printed their first Souvenir Card in 1894. They produced many different series of cards. They had offices in London and New York.
