The black and white card shows two frames, the top one circular and the bottom one oval. Each are surrounded by holly and contain an image of a boat. The upper image looks like a dinghy pulled ashore, the lower image a larger ship which appears beached. At the top of the card are the words: A bright and happy Christmas to you. The whole card has an embossed frame of ivy. The foot of the card is marked: X.C.48-E and has a small logo.

The Rotary Photographic Company was established around 1899 and closed between 1916 and 1921 when they merged with several other companies. With the use of the rotary presses for printing, the Rotary Photographic Company introduced mass produced real photograph postcards to England.
